The strawberry is certainly the culture that has had and still has the highest evolution of cultural practices in recent decades. The rapid variation of the "technology" ensures that the strawberry crop is affected by the move from an area where you use certain techniques to another that it introduces new ones.
At European level, Spain, Italy and France are the three main producing countries in the order of strawberries. In recent years in Belgium, Holland and some Italian alpine areas there has been an expansion of the strawberry with the development of cultivation techniques "soilless" to produce strawberries "off season" which may mean a delay in the anticipated production.
The standard varieties are currently undergoing major changes in both growing areas: the southern (Spain and southern Italy, North Africa and other Mediterranean countries) sees the emergence of variety "California" or related products; the northern (Po Valley, Northern France and Central Europe), where variety dominate "Europe" recently established.
