Think your balcony is not so large as to contain a vegetable garden?

Do not be discouraged! A single plan does not take up that much space.

Just remember that even the roots they need space and that therefore each vegetable must be planted at a certain distance from the others.

When in doubt, reduce the number of plants that you intend to plant. Better to focus on quality over quantity.

Everything is Illuminated

If all plants need light, vegetables love the sun in particular. In what direction your balcony overlooking?

The exposures to the south-east or south-west are the best. In fact, both provide many hours of light per day, but not during the hottest hours.

The balconies that face the south, however, will surely have plenty of light, but they may have "too much", especially in the middle of the day.

The exposure worst, finally, is the one to the north. You can still try to cultivate your garden on a balcony facing north, perhaps by moving for a few hours a day your best exposed seedlings on windowsills.

Issue of climate

We can move into the house only if it is really cold outside because if they get used to a temperature too warm, just bring them back to the balcony, they will die.

The best idea is not to plant vegetables that need to Mediterranean climates, in areas with very low temperatures.

The wind, which damages the plants, can be defeated without great dramas: put the plants more vulnerable in the most sheltered of your balcony, perhaps close to the walls.

The garden is not rocket science!

Prepare yourself psychologically! Do not expect to see great results after a day or a week later. And maybe even after a month.

The plants are living beings: some are more resistant, others, as you can and strive to follow every indication, will not grow.

So get ready for big disappointments and unexpected surprises!
